Bodog Poker overview 2009.
Bodog is an independent room with a very unique and stylish poker client (one of my favourites in fact). However, the room is let down by its lower than average player traffic and absence of a rakeback deal. However, it is a great room for micro limit players looking for easy money.
- One of the best poker clients. Very stylish software and an overall enjoyable place to play.
- Very soft competition at the micro stakes.
- Lower than average player volume.
- No rakeback to compensate for low traffic.
It is a real shame that Bodog does not receive more traffic than it does, as the poker client is very classy and makes you feel like a star at the tables as you play. Based on the software alone, Bodog would easily be one of my favourite places to play on a regular basis.
However, the low traffic volume means that there is not enough action outside of the most popular stakes (between $25NL and $200NL), and even there you will find yourself bumping in to the same players quite frequently.
Bodog competition and traffic.
- Very soft competition at the $10NL and $25NL stakes. Above that it is standard.
- Traffic is okay if you play between the $25NL and $200NL stakes.
- Not an ideal room for regular small/mid stakes grinders.
Bodog is a top tier website for traffic, but it is in the low end of that top tier. There is enough traffic to not have a problem finding a few good active tables at the popular limits, but as a regular Texas Hold em player you really want a more substantial number of players at the tables throughout the day.
However, the micro limits at Bodog are some of the softest you are going to find. It would be perfect if the weak competition extended further up the stakes, but unfortunately the easy money stops when you get past $25NL.
At $50NL+ the competition is neither overly soft nor overly tough, so it doesn't really make up for the fact that the player volume is low. You will occasionally find a big fish jumping over from the Casino or Sportsbook at Bodog, but these occurrences are not frequent enough to make Bodog a real easy-money room above the micro stakes.
Bodog software.
- Love the software. Amazingly sleek and smooth.
- HoldemManager supported (PokerTracker 3 not supported though).
- Standard table features. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I love Bodog's software. There isn't a poker client out there that runs as smoothly as this one whilst making you feel like a real high roller at the same time, even if you are playing $10NL.
The Bodog Poker lobby is fast and easy to use, but then that is not a difficult task anyway with the low number of tables. However, the true style and class really kicks in when you open up the tables and start playing. Everything runs as smoothly as you could want and the resizeable tables are very well constructed, making multi-tabling super easy.
My only two gripes with the Bodog Poker software is that you can only have a maximum of 4 tables open at a time and PokerTracker is not fully supported (HoldemManager is though). This helps to resign the Bodog Poker room to being most suitable for casual low stakes players as opposed to mid-level grinders.
Bodog Poker bonus.
- 110% up to $500. 10% instant play bonus and additional 100% up to $500.
- The 10% bonus is instant in to your account for you to play with at the tables.
- You have 30 days to redeem as much of the $500 bonus as you can.
The Bodog bonus is unique in that it actually gives you an instant 10% bonus for you to play with. The second 100% up to $500 must then be worked off within 30 days by collecting poker points. There is no cap to the 10% bonus part, so there is a lot of bonus money on offer if you are making a large deposit.
The bonus is given out automatically to all new players. There is no need for any bonus codes, referral codes or anything like that. You can enter a Bodog referral number if it makes you feel comfortable, but it makes no difference either way.
Bodog Poker bonus details.

- You must collect 3x bonus amount in points before you are able to withdraw the instant bonus.
- You have 30 days to redeem as much of the 100% up to $500 as possible.
- You must collect 10 points for every $1 of extra bonus money.
- Points are earned as shown in the table below.
| Rake | Points |

| $1-00 - $3.00 | 1.00 |
There are no harsh requirements for this Bodog bonus, which is very good considering you are getting an instant bonus along with a standard 100% up to $500 bonus. Just be careful not to jump in to the stakes that are out of your bankroll requirements with the extra money from the extra 10%.
