OnGame Network Review

OnGame is currently the most popular online gaming network, just edging out iPoker when it comes to player volume. The first software client was developed in 1999 for PokerRoom, and since then it has developed and expanded to become the top network in the industry.

The rooms on the network receive the 4th highest player traffic in online poker, only the 3 giants of PokerStars, Full-Tilt and Party receive more traffic. The network accommodates roughly 25 poker rooms or ‘skins’, with the most popular being PokerRoom and Hollywood Poker. One of the latest additions to the network is Chan Poker, which is a new poker room set up by the two-time Main Event winner Johnny Chan.

The software provided by OnGame is good, and offers all the standard features that you would expect from a popular online poker room. However, the room excels when it comes to providing a realistic 3D environment for its customers to play in. The table graphics are top notch, and bring you closer to a realistic table set up than any other room or network on the market. Just take a look at the screenshots on the right and you will see what I mean; most people are pleasantly surprised when they load up the software for the first time.

A unique part of the OnGame network is that the rooms provide a blind structure that you won’t find at many online poker rooms. It is possible to play in Omaha and Holdem games where the small blind and big blind are of equal values. In most rooms, it is only possible to play with blinds where the small blind is half the size of the big, but the OnGame network is different. For example, in a typical online room you will be able to play in no limit games where the blinds are $1/$2, but in an OnGame room, you can play in cash games where the blinds will be $2/$2 instead. This is a unique feature, and it is one that is often employed by card rooms in casinos, but rarely online.

The table layout is well designed, and it is easy to keep up with the action as it progresses at quite a fast pace. The lobby on the other hand could do with improvement, as it can sometimes make things a little difficult when choosing a table. There is a large chat box in the centre of the lobby, which means that the area for displaying the list of tables is compromised, and so you are not given a full view of what is on offer. You are required to do a lot of scrolling around to find your desired table, which is a big annoyance when the chat box proves to be of very little utility. Furthermore, it is not easy to compare the table statistics such as average pot size of each of the tables, as you have to click on each table individually to view this information.

In spite of this, the OnGame network picks up huge popularity points with Mac users because of its java-based software. The java-based software means that the rooms or ‘skins’ on the network are compatible with Mac users, and so the network mops up all of the players that are unable to play at other rooms due to the compatibility issues. This is a very attractive feature, which makes the network a popular choice for sportsbook companies looking to start up an online poker room.

Although OnGame receives the most traffic out of all the online gaming networks, the iPoker network with rooms like Titan Poker is not too far behind. However, it does not necessarily matter who is in the lead when it comes to player traffic, as both of the networks are solid and provide a great online poker experience for the players. When comparing these top two networks, iPoker has superior software features, but OnGame has the upper hand when it comes to graphics and having Mac compatible rooms. Over a few months or years, it’s anyone’s guess to who could be leading the online gaming network market.
