Poker Networks

Poker NetworksIn the online poker industry, there are many rooms out there for you to choose from. If you have been playing for some time, you may have played at a number of different rooms to find the one that suits you best. If you have been particularly observant you will have noticed that some of the rooms have very similar software, but with different names and different colour schemes. This is because some rooms have come together using the same software to form a network.

Poker rooms do this so that they can share the players and have a higher volume of traffic than if they were just a standalone room. This helps to retain more of the players that visit their room, instead of having them sign-up and then later realize that there is very little action at the tables. A poker room on a certain network is referred to as a ‘skin’, which will share the same software as other rooms on the network but have its own unique design and promotions. For example, Titan Poker is a skin on the iPoker network.

The benefit of knowing about the different skins on each network is that you can sign up for different accounts on the same network to take advantage of their bonus. This is especially useful if you are fond of the software and players on a particular network, so you don’t have to stray away from what you are familiar with. Some networks have a large number of rooms on them, so you can spend a long time hopping from room to room on the network, absorbing each of their bonuses as you go along. But be careful as rooms are not always happy about players signing up just to abuse their bonus offers, so try and spend some time at the room after working off the bonus to keep everyone happy.

In addition to the poker tables, some networks have casino sections built into the software for you to play at. For example, the iPoker network has an online casino within the software client, allowing you to play popular casino games such as roulette, online slots, blackjack and more. Whilst it is not recommended that you spend too much time at these games because of the fact that they will eventually lose you more money than you can expect to win, it is nice to have the option there if you fancy a change from time to time.

The biggest and most popular networks that you may have already come across are the iPoker, OnGame, Microgaming and Boss Media networks, which collectively receive a large amount of traffic from their respective rooms. If you search around you will see that Microgaming has a huge number of individual rooms or ‘skins’ on its network, including some popular rooms like Bet365, 32Red and Dream Poker. The OnGame network includes rooms such as PokerRoom and Hollywood Poker, whilst iPoker plays host to rooms like Titan and Noble Poker.

These 4 big networks are constantly battling to have you playing on their network, and to be honest you can’t go wrong with any of them. However, the OnGame network is currently ahead of the pack when it comes to player traffic, with iPoker coming a close second. Microgaming and Boss Media aren't too far behind either, but things can easily change as new rooms are added to each network a regular basis, and each network has a new promotion added from one of its rooms all the time.
