Overview 7.7/10

Cake Poker is a very well rounded room that does well in every area when it comes to providing a solid poker room to play at. The site is relatively new, as it was established in 2004 by poker players that wanted to provide a great poker room using their own background in online poker. The fact that the founders of the room have experience in playing online poker means that they are able to relate to their own players at the tables, and so can work to develop the best poker software and support as possible for the players.

Software 8/10

The table graphics at Cake Poker are not the most exciting I have ever seen, but the fact that the players at the table are based on real people is a cool feature. You are also able to choose which character represents you at the table, including a busty blonde that appears to be quite the favourite amongst players; male and female. However, there is no option to upload your own personal avatar to the room.

The software itself is quick to download, and is also pretty speedy when starting up the program. The lobby is one of the easiest to use that I have ever come across, as it allows you to search comfortably between all of the cash games and tournaments on offer. All of the standard features are available at the table, however there is nothing special on offer to make the room stand out amongst others. The only problem I have found with the software is that the table windows are not resizeable, which can be a little annoying if you like to multi-table frequently.

Traffic 7/10

For a young poker room, Cake Poker has done incredibly well to attract the number of players that it has to its tables. Cake Poker also accepts US players, which helps to increase the overall player traffic. However, although there is a noticeable difference between the traffic at Cake and some of the big name poker rooms, there are always enough players logged in to give you a good game of poker, whichever limits you decide to play at.

As you might expect, the most popular games are the Texas Holdem cash games and tournaments, with a solid number of players sitting down at the cash tables throughout the day. However, it is not reccommended that you play at the room if you are looking for some action at the Omaha or Stud tables, as these are far less popular and receive little traffic.

Competition 8/10
From my experience at the Cake Poker tables, the level of play is slightly higher than average. The room seems to attract some of the more experienced players due to the room's attractive promotions and support, and so the overall ability of the players is higher. This makes Cake a great destination if you are looking for some good competition to play against to try and develop you skills, but it's not so great if you are looking to pick up some easy money.
Support 9/10
Because the room has been set up by actual poker players, you can be sure that there is a heavy focus on the support department at Cake. The room strives to provide a helpful support desk, which is clearly evident from the speedy replies to emails and informative responses. Although there is currently only email support available, it is more than sufficient if you ever have any problems or queries about the room. If you email at any time of the day, Cake are sure to get back to you as quickly as possible.
Bonus 6/10

Cake Poker offers a solid 100% up to $500 bonus to all new depositing players. The bonu can be redeemed through play at the cash games and tournaments on offer, as you earn frequent player points (FPPs) for each raked hand. The bonus is redeemed in $10 increments for every 167 FPPs earned.

For each dollar raked at the tables, you will receive 1 FPP. These FPPs are accurate to the amount raked, as $1.25 is equal to 1.25 FPPs. Each FPP is worth 6c, therefore 167 FPPs are needed to redeem each $10 of bonus. In addition, for each dollar paid in tournament fees, you will earn 7 FPPs. As with cash games, the FPPs are given out according to the exact amount raked, as a $0.50 fee will earn you 3.5 FPPs.

Gold Cards

One of the best features of the Cake Poker room is their ongoing gold cards promotion. As you play at the tables, you will occasionally be dealt a gold card, which will be stored in your account until you decide to use it. As you accumulate more cards, you can use different combinations of the cards (each card represents an actual playing card) to enter big tournaments and claim cash prizes. This makes Cake Poker quite an addictive room to play at as your start to collect these gold cards.
